Feb 2010 meet at Chennai

Review on the meeting by Jerry:

Review on the meeting by Jerry:

The evening spent yesterday with our GemS was something really memorable for those who met as 7 pm to 11.30 pm was filled with fun all through.. there was so much to talk and share for all of us, that originally planned 2 hours of time was not sufficient and time just flew..

SAK was in high spirits which was evident from his high decibel laughter, which subsided little bit towards the end (pls don’t relate it to effect of any hard drink, he had just a bottle of Coke).. Elango was a mute spectator most of the time, but he too enjoyed being there..

Neelakantan, though he had an important family ritual going on at his home, made himself available for close to an hour..

Manimaran & Rajasekar could not make it.. Manimaran had to go out of town on an unplanned personal commitment and Rajasekar too was caught in some programme locally and so failed to show up.. even CAT could not come, but CAT had informed well in advance about his inability to come.

Arun Francis, as usual gave his prompt attendance, and joined us all before Neelakantan could leave.. Shrikanth and Savri were there quite early..

Ramesh called from the US and spoke to us all and it was nice to speak to him and hear his voice after so many years… Ramesh said that he’s planning to make a visit to Chennai in March after his return from US this month end and insisted about having a get-together during his visit..

Shahul too called later on and was excited about our meeting and spoke individually to all of us..

Every one enjoyed the evening pretty well.. As Ramesh had suggested there can also be a trip planned to Mahabs or Pondy sometime during the year..

Pls find the group photograph attached… Neelakantan, we should have taken a snap before you left!!!

Meeting with Kannan at Loyola

Review about the meet by Jerry:

Neelakantan, Srikanth, & I made it today to Loyola where Kannan was invited to give a talk at the 3 day conference of Statistics dept..

We decided to be there for at least 30 minutes so that we can meet Kannan and talk to him for while, despite having tight schedule individually for each one of us.. we planned to be there between 12 pm & 12.30 pm, as Kannan was given time between 11.15 & 12.15 pm.

But there was change in schedule and Kannan had not started when we assembled there and so we could spend time talking to him, sitting next to him inside the auditorium. Neelakantan had to leave shortly as there was an important meeting for him at 1 pm. Shrikanth & I stayed back and decided to sit thru the session as it was nearing lunch time too.

Kannan gave an excellent presentation in which he spoke about how statistical tools & models are applied in the drug manufacturing industry, specific to Oncology. After the session, we took a snap along with Kannan and two of the Professors who taught us, Mr Martin & Mr Paul, which you can see as an attachment herewith..

Kannan, it was good meeting you after so many years and it was nice to see the same charming smile on your face...

And Neelakantan adds:

Ideally I would have loved to stay right through.

After all we need to catch up for the last 25 years.

Shrikanth,Jerry and I made it to Kannan's speech - but due to some prior appointment I had to leave at 12.30 but not before catching up with a glimpse of Eternity.

Well,Mr.Paul Rajamanickam is now with the University of Wisconsin - but a bit difficult to reconcile how he looks now with his 1985 look.

Mr.Shantharam - well totally different.

Dr BC,Mr PC and Dr TMD - all the old warhorses were there.

I could recognise Mr Jerome Stanley who hasnt changed much.

Mr Leo Alexander is no more with Loyola - he is the Controller of Examinations,Madras University..

I also asked kannan to send me the email id of Prof R R Suresh.

All said and done,a great and memorable day to cherish.

A word about the present batch of Students in Stats dept - the fire or glow that was the quintessence of college days and you can make it out in the faces was sadly absent.

No wonder, martin,Tobias,Paul all spent their time talking to all of us GS guys when we were there today.

December 09 meet with Shahul

Our Ooty Trip during 3rd year

November 2009 Meeting with Harish

Preview about the meet by Jerry:

As announced, it was a get together planned for Harish.. those of us who met at Thulasi Park for the 1st get-together spoke to him over phone and it was good to have him in our 2nd get-together.

Neelakantan joined in at about 7 pm and he was too happy to be there.. Arun's brother Jude also joined us towards the end.

Harish, Aroky & Arun came at 5.20 pm itself and we had good time together talking about good old days.. Harish also gave current update about MLA Krishnamoorthy which was interesting, as most of us always wanted to know about this guy..

It was good meeting Harish after more than 15 years for us and Harish was in his best as usual, and made it a memorable evening.. Harish too will be in the group from now on. As Harish had to catch the night flight to Singapore we had to wind up little early than expected. Pls find attached few snaps taken today.

Mahabalipuram Trip during college days

"...these were taken during a trip that we went to Mahabalipuram during our Loyola days, may be in the 2nd year.. it was a trip taking our bikes.. these snaps are moth-eaten partly but the memories of the trip are very much fresh to me. You'll see Aroky, Arun, George, Harish, MLA Krishnamoorthy and me in the pictures...." - Jerry
